Does your toilet keep running constantly? Have you been unable to flush it? Is your toilet filling slowly, or not doing so at all? Silver Water Plumbing have experience dealing with all kinds of toilet issues – there’s no problem too big or small.
What Are Some Common Toilet Issues and How Are They Caused?
There are many ways a toilet can malfunction. Listed below are just a few:
- Leaking toilet:
This is generally caused by cracks somewhere in the toilet.
- Toilet not flushing:
This can be caused by a variety of issues, but generally is caused by a blockage in the pipes or a low water level.
- Constantly running toilet:
This problem is generally caused by damaged or faulty inlet valves.
What issue is my toilet experiencing?
Because of all their different parts, problems with your toilet sometimes aren’t easy to identify. Sometimes multiple parts may be malfunctioning and causing problems. If you think your toilet is faulty, there’s a few ways you can identify the issue.
It will be clear if your toilet is constantly running due to the sound of it refilling or emitting a hissing sound. If you think your toilet is leaking, you can use food dye to identify it. Firstly, flush your toilet and wait for it to fill up fully, then take off the tank cover and add some dark-coloured food dye. Next, put the lid back on and wait for at least half an hour. If the water in the toilet bowl is a different colour when you return you can be sure there is a leak somewhere in the toilet. Please note that there is no reason to worry about the food dye in the water – after a few flushes, the colour will return to normal.
If you suspect an issue with a potential crack in your toilet, locate the tap behind the toilet and switch it off. Next, take a note of the water level in the tank. When you return after a few hours, note the water level again. If it is lower than before, your toilet may be cracked.
If I Find An Issue With My Toilet, Why Do I Need To Get It Fixed?
It’s simple – a minor issue can quickly turn into a major one if it is not attended to quickly. For example, you may identify a seemingly small leak in your toilet. Over time this water could cause damage to the area surrounding your toilet, and your water bills will increase substantially. In the case of an emergency like an overflowing toilet, the damage will occur quickly, and it could also pose a severe health risk.
