Blocked Shower Drains
Below you’ll find three ways to hammer out this DIY fix all on your own and if you aren’t able to clear the blocked shower drain then simply pick up the phone, give us a ring, and we will take care of everything for you!
Boil up some water on the stove and then pour it down the drain
Believe it or not, good old-fashioned hot water – boiling hot water – poured slowly down your drain just a little bit at a time is usually more than enough to clear up, break up, and dissolve whatever it is that is causing the clogged shower drain in the first place. You’ll want to fill up a saucepan or a stockpot with plenty of hot water to get the job done and pour that water directly down the drain slow enough for it to work its way through without pooling up and cooling down. This should be more than enough to handle most of the simple issues you’re dealing with.
Make a homemade volcano to flush your shower system
A good old-fashioned elementary school science fair project – the homemade volcano – is going to do wonders to help you fix any of your plumbing issues right out of the gate. All you’ll have to do is mix a third of a cup of baking soda with a third of a cup of vinegar in a bowl (adding the vinegar to the baking soda and not vice versa), and as soon as it starts to fizz and – almost instantly – dump the mixture down the drain. This should clear clogged shower drain issues that are a little bit more stubborn.
Dig out the obstruction with a coat hanger
If either of those two solutions don’t work, you’ll have to send down a “snake” by straightening a coat hanger, fishing it down your pipe and hoping it is going to be enough to clear your blocked drains. If that doesn’t work, it’s probably best to grab the phone and contact Sydney plumber here at Silverwater Plumbing to handle the heavy lifting for you. We’ll send someone out almost immediately to fix the problem, without ever breaking your bank (or your plumbing) along the way!
